How long have you been at Hastings Marine? Just on 5 years now
What training have you completed? Finance and insurance training in the recreation industry over 15 years.
What’s the best part of your job? Knowing the awesome adventures our customers will have with products like the Fish Pro jet skis and big offshore boats. I love seeing the joy on their faces as they drive out with their new vessel to experience the excitement firsthand.

What goals have you set for yourself? To provide a better customer experience and build the business in both sales and service.
Outside of work hours, what keeps you busy? I have 2 mastiff dogs and a house that needs a bit of work, (the dogs do as well)!

Can you think of a funny or unusual situation at work that you did not expect? Once a big bird of prey (maybe an Osprey) living on the tower out the back. Anyway it flew past & dropped a live mullet & nearly hit a staff member!! It was still alive! It wasn’t the first time this happened either.
David, Marine Sales Specialist (new & used boats & jetskis)
How long have you been at Hastings Marine? Started in October 2024, so just a few weeks.
What’s the best part of your job? I enjoy the interaction with customers especially helping them choose the right product. I like a softer approach to selling and adding value to build loyalty. By putting an emphasis on genuine customer service, I hope to build repeat business.
How does this help customers? It’s about understanding them, because customers take their time, so we need to be patient and build rapport (we are not like McDonalds). It’s about the benefits of buying with a large local dealer.

What goals have you set for yourself? My move here is to settle into the town and the dealership and establish a solid long term reputation.
Outside of work hours, what keeps you busy? I like to keep fit with lots of walking and some fishing on the weekend plus eating properly.
Favourite footy team? Parramatta, because that’s where I was born.
Most loved sporting heroes? Ray Price, Peter Stirling and Mick Cronin the old guard, wining 4 flags in 5 years. I still I have a fence picket from the old Cumberland oval, Parra’s home ground), when they tore it down when I was 15.
Favourite band? Cold Chisel.
What is something that no-one at work knows about you? I was born on Black Friday (May 13, year not disclosed!)

How long have you worked at Hastings Marine? 9 years now
What training have you completed? Certified Marine Technician
What’s the best part of your job? No two jobs are the same, there is always something different every day.

What goals have you set for yourself? Nah not really
Outside of work hours, what keeps you busy? Two kids 3 and 5, pretty much running around with them.
Favourite footy team? Melbourne Storm, (we wont talk about the Grand Final).

Can you think of a funny or unusual situation at work that you did not expect? So many things but I can’t remember anything right now.
What is something that no-one at work knows about you? I have no secrets.
Drew, Marine Mechanic
How long have you been at Hastings Marine? 7 years – where does the time go?
What training have you completed? Cert III at Tafe in Marine Mechanics and the Mercury training too which helped.
What’s the best part of your job? The pay is good and getting out on the water is fun too.
How does this help your customers? Having genuine knowledge of how the boats work makes for better servicing and better reliability.

What goals have you set for yourself? None. I’m qualified now & I’ve done all I can do.
Outside of work hours, what keeps you busy Fixing my own cars and boats (they always need something).
Zac, Marine Technician (4th year apprentice)
How long have you worked at Hastings Marine? Coming up for 2 years.
What training have you completed? Well originally, Cert III in Civil Construction but lately a Cert III in Marine Technology which is 3 years at TAFE +1 more year.
What’s the best part of your job? The satisfaction of fixing a boat that isn’t working into a source of pride and joy.
How does this help your customers? When our work is done, the boat will be ready for use again – what boat owner doesn’t love that?
Complete this sentence, ‘to be brilliant at my job I must…’ Have the proper training, certification, and don’t forget patience is an important part of what we do. Because everything gets corroded, we need to have a careful methodical way to find the problem by elimination.
What goals have you set for yourself? I’m thinking about what’s next – maybe diesel mechanics plus some financial goals.
Outside of work hours, what keeps you busy? For me it’s everything mechanical: for my bike, boat and the car, then when I get time I don’t mind a bit of fishing & camping.

Jack, Marine Mechanic (3rd year apprentice)
How long have you been at Hastings Marine? 3 years now since August.
What training have you completed? 3 years at TAFE (Sydney) means I visit there about 7 times each year.
What’s the best part of your job? Learning new stuff especially driving a wide range of boats when I test them on the water. Its great stuff, plus I’ve learned about other things like electrical, sounders and pumps, covering everything that’s on a boat.
How does this help your customers? With this knowledge I’m able to work out what problems a boat has and fix them so that our customers will have confidence knowing everything works.

What goals have you set for yourself? Yep, finish off the course (in a few weeks).
Outside of work hours, what keeps you busy? Working on my car, hanging out with the boys, oh and keeping my girlfriend happy.
